I just realized how terrible our defense is.
I knew it was bad, but not THIS bad.
Also why does Benning play in the NHL? He is poop. I'd rather Bouchard or Bear playing those 3rd pairing minutes.
(frank)ing McLellan is a dumbass. |

Can we please swap Khaira and Lucic? Please? - Wildschwein
Khaira second line, Lucic third line, Chaisson in, Caggiula out |

Why does Benning play in the NHL? Because, when slotted correctly, he outproduces his opposition (iirc). His weaknesses and shortcomings are being exacerbated by not playing in his proper role- a problem the Oil have had for years.
They set their players up to fail and then get rid of them for nothing despite having value in an appropriate role. See Petry and Schultz for examples of that. |

Kassian goes out before Caggiula does. Kassian is a complete non-factor in every discipline and is a negative influence on the bottom line. Caggiula is at least showing some fire and trying to make things happen.
Chiasson in for Kassian. |

But I like Kassian...
Caggiula fourth line, Chaisson replaces Kassian.
Also you defender Caggiula is something I thought I'd never see. |

You like the current Kassian? The one that does nothing in any zone and is an equally big drag on defense and the PK as Caggiula? The one that has played with no fire for the better part of 85 games now?
It's not defending Caggiula as much as it is tearing into Kassian. |

If I recall correctly (iirc).
If he sucks tonight, that's a one game sample with a partner he hasn't played with before versus the better part of his career.
Maybe his weaknesses have been scouted and he'll never evolve past them and is therefore doomed to suck from here on out, but that doesn't change why he had a spot to start the campaign. This isn't a coach playing favourites with someone who summarily hasn't earned it (ala Caggiula and Lucic). |

I do not like the current Kassian. Current Kassian is not hitting people. Current Kassian is not skating fast. He needs something to get going if you know what I mean
"At least he's playing with some fire" sounds like you like him just a tad. |

I thought it was a fancy stat lmao
Yeah but if he fail an easy break out or gets danced around like he's a pylon, how is that Garrison's fault?
What's the opposite of McLellan's favourite? People who (frank)ed his wife? Looking at yyou Puljujarvi. |

I'm not suggesting it would be Garrison's fault; I'm saying that him being in that situation could be a result of hundreds of little things occuring. His confidence is maybe shot right now as a result of playing too high in the lineup and thus could be feeling tentative with the puck on his stick leading him rushing a decision on the breakout and failing to execute.
Another factor could include a partner he's unfamiliar with being a different position than he's used to his partner being in this further exacerbating his discomfort.
As for being danced around, that depends wildly on the situation. For example, when Pastrnak undressed him in the Boston game I wasn't pissed at Benning, I was in awe of a brilliant player making a brilliant play at a speed that most Dmen would fail to stop. When McDavid blows past Chara or jukes out Doughty or undresses Keith, do I poop on that Dman? No. I recognize an elite player materializing a scoring chance from an unlikely source.
On the other hand, when Benning flubs the pass leading to the EN goal, I do poop on him. It's a fine balance. |
